In 1998, before the company was even incorporated, Google began a rich tradition of creating custom illustrators of the Google logo for various occasions. Over a decade and billions of dollars later, Google continues a rich traditions of event-inspired illustrations from Bastille Day to the Taiwan Elections.
Illustrator Nathan Manire notified us that he recently updated his portfolio and he has expanded upon his style and capabilities with some new and refreshing imagery. He is a multifaceted talent as capable by the way of hand as by the way of the mouse and that is much more clear in his updated book.
SF based designer/illustrator Brent Couchman has that familiar minimal retro style happening in his portfolio and he does it very well. I should say his ‘Flickrfolio‘ rather.
Joanna Krótka has filed her work under the domain ‘Purenonsens‘ which is an act of humility to be sure.
“An illustrator based in Poland, born in mid-80’s with imagination driven by psychedelic and morbid pictures as well as prog/space/psychedelic rock music. Bur most of all – huge geek with love for all things geeky.”
As humble as she’d like to be there is some definite illustration talent represented in her portfolio.
Joshua Hibbert was another artist who sent me his work and very humbly so as well. It was another, hey please check out my work email and to be honest, for as long as I have been blogging and looking at portfolios online (over 10 years now) you develop certain predisposed judgements. So when I see a link to a ‘blogspot’ portfolio I think, well he/she doesn’t really have a real website so I will check it out, but my expectations are at a minimum. But who am I to be such a pretentious douchebag and think that I know everything about how people choose to display their work online. I say this especially because Hibbert’s work surprised me and he has some excellent imagery on display and he is an obvious multi-faceted talent. Thanks for sending your work in Josh. I was inspired.
The illustrator known as ‘Brisseaux‘ has updated with some glowing hot Tron-inspired work that harkens back the 80s with a modern twist. It looks pretty darn cool if you ask me.
My friend Mike Walters turned me onto the bizarre Photoshop compositing work of Android Jones. It’s a heavily-layered affair that would no doubt put a crunch on your machine. His work has sparked some interest as of late and he may actually be exhibiting here in Denver soon. Keep an eye out. I would imagine it would be something else altogether to see his imagery in print.
“Chris B. Murray is an artist / illustrator / designer who was raised in a small upstate NY town bordering the Canadian border / St. Lawrence River. Although it took several years for him to develop a personal style, CBM’s vivid color use, striking subject matter and technique became apparent at a young age. Chris would spend his younger years drawing endlessly into the night while his friends were our running a muck. During this time he developed a deep fascination for graffiti art / hip-hop culture, comic book and children’s book art. Chris carefully studied the bold color schemes from graffiti, the line work & dynamic compositions shown in comics and the dreamy imagery present in children’s books. From these studies he absorbed enough visuals and information to hone a style he now calls his own. Chris currently resides in Philadelphia, PA with his beautiful girlfriend Emily & their boxer puppy ‘Chunk’.”
I don’t know how I have never heard of this guy but if you are a fan of street-inspired design and illustration his work is DOPE. I haven’t used that word confidently in a while (probably because it makes me feel old) but damn his stuff nice. He’s got a great store too full of all kinds of goodies. I am definitely keeping an eye on the Mexican illustrator Mr. Kone.
I am really digging the varied styles of illustrator Pavel Ripley. There is some very nice work on his website that ranges all over the map for an illustrator but in every instance each image is highly realized at an accomplished skill level.
Akeno Omokoto is a young Spanish ‘digital’ illustrator living in Galicia. After spending nearly 10 years studying art he decided to quit his program and try his hand at working as a freelance illustrator. He has a varied style, a wealth of technical know-how and is always searching for new inspiration to enrich his work.
Andrede Freitas has a unique digital illustration style that still feels very painterly. His ‘zombie’ series of recognizable pop figures is pure genius and his work is all kinds of fun to look at.
Czech illustrator Lukas Brezak has some absolutely stunning and highly detailed yet fluidly artistic imagery in his Behance-folio. It’s a lot of work and it’s a lot of fun to look at.
Killian Eng updates yet again with another delirious scroll down the rabbit hole of absolute psychedelic imagination. Wow is really the only word to apply if you are a fan of this kind of imagery and Eng just keeps churning this out like it’s easy. Amazing.
Illustrator Randy Ortiz is packing a lot of detail into his work. He still has a relatively small body of work but it promises an over pour of talent for those who are willing to stay tuned for more.
Nate Utesch has a loose throwback style that uses broad strokes of ink. It’s a very editorial look that references old school comics and it’s a refreshingly ‘non-digital’ affair.
Artist and illustrator Drew Millward has updated with several new works, many of which serve as a refreshing extension of his style. He’s experimenting more with color also which also serves as a nice break. In short, I’m digging it big time.
Illustrator Kustaa Saksi recently updated with several new projects, all featuring the patent psychedelic swimming neon colors that the Saksi name carries with it. And that is all a very good thing.
