Designer/illustrator and rarely do the two meet so perfectly right down the middle, Olly Moss debuted images of his soon-to-be-released Captain America posters through Mondo. Apparently these may only be released at Comicon in San Diego which will no doubt cause a stir amongst die-hard Mondo fans (myself included). They depict imagery in keeping with 1940’s WWII propaganda since that is the period in which the new film is set. They simple but wonderfully designed posters.
Defective Detective is a film by Avner Geller and Stevie Lewis that debuted exclusively at the the Cartoon Brew’s 2nd Student Animation Festival. Wow. This is student work? Time to up the game seriously.

We are digging this series of letterforms created under the theme ‘microorganisms’ by designer and typographer Ruslan Khasanov.
“They say that we all lose 21 grams at the exact moment of death. They say that it’s the weight of the human soul.
Well, it was Dr. Duncan MacDougall of Haverhill, Massachusetts who first attempted to weigh the human soul. In 1907, he placed 6 dying patients on a homemade scale, which also acted as a bed for the patients. More recently in Dan Brown’s novel, “the Lost Symbol”, there is a segment that explains how “The Institute of Noetic Science” uses noetics to weigh the human soul. After tests on terminally ill patients, it came across that immediately after death, a person’s weight dropped.
So, what would happen if they found a way to contain this invincible mass.. this soul.. Obviously the only reason to do this would be to put it in some kind of awesome robot.. yeah!”

“Andrew Hem’s introspective, otherworldly paintings explore realities one step away from our everyday waking life.” Hem shared a mixture of Cambodian cultural influence in his upbringing combined with time spent in Los Angeles. These two very different influences are most definitely apparent in his artwork.
This is the strange, whimsical but fun to watch official music video for Jeez Louise’s single ‘Secret Skwirl’ directed and animated by Maxime Bruneel.
Illustrator Sam Green has updated with a new website and a few new images of illustration created for recent projects. I am still loving what he is producing.
Spanish graphic designer Borja Bonaque has a considered portfolio of work including some excellent illustration work for the NY ad studio Animal Agency.
Momentus is…”A collaborative project in which a select group of designers, illustrators, and artists create visual interpretations of the most defining moments in United States history as a way of informing others of our proud, yet sometimes troubled and forgotten past.
Momentus contributors hail from around the globe as the most defining moments in United States history have often had a radical effect on the world abroad. See the full roster.”
This is a nice little short film that has been grabbing up a slew of awards at recent shows. You can pick up all the credits on the project at the Vimeo page.
Metamorphosis is a recent photo study by the French photographer who calls himself Me&Edward. It’s a fascinating but disturbing series of images depicting the human form in a bio-transitional state.
Grzegorz Domaradzki updates his portfolio with some new (and as could be expected) excellent illustration work. I really love how he translates his graphite drawings into digital illustrations and achieves a much more photographic look as an end result. His use of color and nuanced type is also very nice.
I am digging some of the restrained typographic collage work in the series ‘26 letters 26 pictures‘ by graphic designer Denis Lefèvre.
Robber who broke into hair salon is beaten by its black-belt owner and kept as a sex slave for three days… fed only Viagra. Yes this is a real story. Our planned cross country robbing spree in Russia could turn out to be really interesting.
Gif shop is kind of a cool little app for your iPhone that allows you to make animated gifs via the camera in your phone and then publish them quickly. If you are infatuated by the animated gif medium it’s a great way to experiment with it. It would be cool to see someone do an entire stop motion animation with it that lasted more than just a few frames. I could imagine if done right you could probably generate something pretty cool. You can watch the how to above and find out more at gifshop.tv.
In the world of CG, motion, FX, 3D, editing, live action and just all around broadcast/digital production awesomeness, Digital Kitchen reigns supreme. Taco supreme. Nachos supreme. Chocolate supreme. Whip cream supreme. Velvet supreme. Dream supreme.
Hype Beast recently posted a great interview with one of my favorite artists and illustrators James Jean. The impetus for the interview is Jean’s latest book ‘Process Rebus’ but the interview dives in further to Jean’s process and philosophy.
