My friends at Legwork have released their latest reel for 2012 and it’s chock full of whoop ass. I had a chance of working with these guys maybe 4-5 years back just as they were very first starting out and turned down the chance. I’ve been kicking myself ever since. They continue to amaze me with the kind of work they are continually putting out and their star is fast on the rise here in Denver. All of it is deserved though because they work their asses off. Keep it up guys. I’ve got nothing but love.

Pablo Abad has kind of cornered the market in the sacred geometry, mystic low brow hipster design aesthetic category but has done it in a way that still makes it seem totally original and personal. I think he’s been working in this style for a while now but it has definitely been copied by numerous other designers. He has been updating his portfolio lately and it’s great work all the same.

I am a devotee of Herb Lubalin and have lauded over his work most of my career. He was a rarity in graphic design as someone who was capable of bringing something ‘illustrative’ to his work and typography that was equally graphic. It was a perfect marriage of human touch and technical precision that still rivals anything being created in the world of graphic design today. His work was also somehow simultaneously 60’s but completely timeless in style.
Unit Editions is releasing a heavily researched and beautiful looking book that you can pre-order all about the life and work of the inspirational figure that was Herb Lubalin. It’s a must have for anyone in the field.

The synopsis:
“Scientists observe a tribe, which lives peacefully outside the external world in the rainforest. They know no form of writing and communicate only with their simple dances. After some month of abstinence, the scientists visit the tribe again and discover, that their whole behavior has changed completely. They pray to a skull-god and menace the scientist. Now they use weird signs, which they paint on themselves. The scientists have to find out what happened.”

Motion designer Jonathan Kim lives and works in Los Angeles where he is an Art Director at Royale. He was kind enough to send in his portfolio that is rich with stunning visuals. He’s got some real talent and I’d imagine he’s felt the pull of more than one or two studios in LA because he looks like a hot commodity. Great work all around.

He was invited by SICAF and the animation was developed using his personal sketchbook created through observing day-to-day life in the city. The story is based on the lives of 3 people who live in Seoul where they are always watched over by the mountains that lie just beyond the city.

Photographer Danny Evans took it upon himself to put Photoshop to use on some notable and recognizable celebrities in order to realize what they may look like without access to the best plastic surgeons on the planet not to mention the kind of capital required to keep those surgeons busy for a lifetime. The end result is pretty amusing. You can read a little more about the project at Fast Company’s design section.

I just wanted to send out a note of condolence and love to anyone effected by the terrible incident last night here in Colorado. A shooter opened fire in a crowded theater in a suburb of Denver last night killing 12 and wounding several others. Our personal friends and family members are safe from harm, but we do have close friends working at several of the local hospitals that took in numerous victims of the incident last night. Several of the wounded were children and parents. An act such as this is totally unthinkable and it’s impossible to take measure of it’s meaning or purpose.
All of us at the Changethethought studio extend our deepest sympathies and send love to the innocent people forever scarred by this terrible event.
We’ve had a hard summer this year here in Colorado with so many already suffering from the extensive fire damage that has ravaged our state. It’s hard not to feel like this is salt in an already open wound. We ask that you stay vigilant and know that we are a community and are as much responsible for each other as we are for ourselves. We love this beautiful state and the wonderful people who populate it and our hearts are with you today.

Defective Comics is a humorous side project put together by poster artists Olly Moss and Daniel Danger featuring your favorite caped crusader hanging out in unusual places. It’s a nice little trifecta of illustration, pop and satire.

Sebastian Linda directed this opus to a favorite childhood and now adulthood past time. He exclaims that he never wanted to be a fireman, pilot or superhero. All he wanted was to be a skateboarder and that’s what he is.
I can stand on a skateboard for a couple of minutes before I lose my balance and fall off. But I love watching other people do it.
Filmed in germany´s most beautiful city: Dresden
