I have to admit that I am a gushing fan of Sci-Fi illustrator Dan McPharlin. Everything he puts his fingers too just turns into pure magic. He has updated his Flickrfolio recently with new album art for various bands that was completed in his trademark 70’s throwback style and all of it is just beautiful. Dan is the man.
Simple dropshadowed vectors with a soft Photoshop noise filter overlayed are serving Brighton-based illustrator Johhny Wan very well. He is sticking to what he has figured out how to do and the results are a lot of fun to look at. Be sure to click the links at the top of his Cargo site to see his work at other locations around the ole internets.
Wow, mark us down as huge fans of the retro comic book-inspired work of North Carolina based illustrator Patrick Leger. His work is bold and colorful but highly accessible from the childlike subconscious memories of every boyhood (or girlhood) comic book and newspaper comic fan.
British illustrator Daniel Mackie does one thing very well and that is watercolor. It’s a bit of a lost art sometimes when it comes to illustration but Mackie is holding his niche firmly down with some lovely work for a long list of clients.
Designer/illustrator Matt Leyen has some good yet simple stuff happening in his Flickrfolio and he has put a lot of emphasis on getting his work out through t-shirt design portals like Threadless and Design By Humans but I suspect if he keeps it up his work will break out into other areas.
Australian illustrator and designer Christopher Haines updates his ‘Neon Dreams’ with some dreamy, painterly and beautiful new work created primarily for the music industry. He has developed an interesting style that is yielding some noteworthy results.
Man Half-Tube is a Ukranian illustrator who is knocking out some kick ass evil and highly detailed illustrations that are then uploaded to his Flickrfolio for your viewing enjoyment.
Brazilian designer João Lavieri is talented and no doubt adept at design and illustration as can be witnessed via his personal website but his real raw talent shines through in his Flickrfolio where you can see some outstanding experimental and often macabre illustrations.
Abduzeedo is offering up a free Tron artpack that actually features some pretty cool graphics that might just come in handy. Definitely worth clicking the download button on this one.
Chuck Anderson AKA No Pattern has posted a large update to his website and he is still managing after all these years to bring in big name clients with his now patented rainbow motion glow digital photo manipulation/illustration work.
Brooklyn-based illustrator Jamie Givens is cranking out some excellent colorized drawings for some local Colorado trade publications like Rock and Ice and Climbing Magazine. He took a brief hiatus a few years back to join the Peace Corps which no doubt enriched both his life and his illustration work.
There are some straight up crazy psychedelic collages happening in the Flickrfolio of Boogieman Media. I mean lightening, aliens and just outright craziness.
Italian illustrator/artist Andrea Moresco AKA El Moro is cranking out some dare I say ‘trippy’ illustration work in his Flickrfolio with boobs, armpit hair, eyballs and all.
Brazilian illustrator Matheus Lopes A.K.A. Mathiole has updated with some excellent new imagery in his Flickerfolio including tigers and butterflies. I dare you not to like that.
Michael Willis works ‘in and around’ London where he pulls together psychedelic collages from what I am guessing is found imagery from ‘in and around’ the internet.
What is it about collage these days that brings about such a spiritual catharsis? It’s popular now and I am guessing it will continue to be and if I can hazard one more guess the reason being that there is something special about pulling some kind of order out of the chaotic ocean of imagery that is now available to us as illustrators and designers. Personally, I love to pull together images off of blogs and out of Google to reassemble strange new imagery that pokes and prods at the pop art-laden section of our consumer brains.
Michael is very good at this and he adds a splash of bright color to heighten the reaction.
Portuguese illustrator/designer Bráulio Amado’s influences are all over the map. He takes an energetic, humerous and eclectic approach to his work that makes for an interesting portfolio browse. I didn’t see comic sans used anywhere though.
‘Dark and beautiful’ are words that surface in the mind to describe the illustrative works of German artist Marco Wagner.
