SOPA: Sucks

Comments Off on SOPA: SucksPolitics

Well, this is all over the news today and for good reason. This site and about a million others would fade away in a record sweep by the American Congress. Early rumors are that it is not going to pass despite a large corporate backing. It shouldn’t pass either. The people are pissed off enough already and now this? Keep the internet free.

“Tell Congress not to censor the internet NOW! – fightforthefuture.org/pipa

PROTECT-IP is a bill that has been introduced in the Senate and the House and is moving quickly through Congress. It gives the government and corporations the ability to censor the net, in the name of protecting “creativity”. The law would let the government or corporations censor entire sites– they just have to convince a judge that the site is “dedicated to copyright infringement.”

The government has already wrongly shut down sites without any recourse to the site owner. Under this bill, sharing a video with anything copyrighted in it, or what sites like Youtube and Twitter do, would be considered illegal behavior according to this bill.

According to the Congressional Budget Office, this bill would cost us $47 million tax dollars a year — that’s for a fix that won’t work, disrupts the internet, stifles innovation, shuts out diverse voices, and censors the internet. This bill is bad for creativity and does not protect your rights.”

Jim Naughten

Comments Off on Jim NaughtenPhotography

Photographer Jim Naughten removes exterior subterfuge and places his subjects squarely within frame to meet the viewer face-to-face and in the raw. It’s stark but somehow a new way of looking at said object or person is brought forth for the viewer to consider.

Hydro74 Cobra Time-Lapse

Comments Off on Hydro74 Cobra Time-LapseArt

The omnipresent force in the vector art for apparel game known as Hydro 74 (who goes by Josua Smith to family and friends) recently sat down to execute a little experiment before a live drawing session at a Tradeshow. This was the end result of a little at home drawing session. Pretty damned impressive.

Minjeong An

Comments Off on Minjeong AnArt

Whoah, there is some highly original work happening in the artistic portfolio of Minjeong An. When I first saw the work above I was stopped in my tracks and ended up having to spend a little extra time just taking it in.

The Paper Fox

Comments Off on The Paper FoxArt

Wow, the paper sculptures created by Jeremy Kool are exactly as his name says, cool. They are all unique little bits of art that would look amazing on the properly considered bookshelf. Unfortunately, my 11 month old son would destroy them in seconds.

Tod Seelie

Comments Off on Tod SeeliePhotography

Tod Seelie is one of those rare photographers who just looks at the world differently. It’s not just about capturing an interesting image. I think it boils down to a unique matter of perspective. He just sees and looks at things differently than the average bear. His portfolio speaks to this rare gift.

Swissted

Comments Off on SwisstedGraphic Design

“Swissted is an ongoing project by graphic designer mike joyce, owner of stereotype design in new york city. Drawing from his love of punk rock and swiss modernism, two movements that have absolutely nothing to do with one another, mike has redesigned vintage punk, hardcore, and indie rock show flyers into international typographic style posters. Each design is set in berthold akzidenz grotesk medium, all lowercase. Many of these posters are now available for sale in three different sizes at print-process. Every single one of these shows actually happened.”

This is a way awesome project that deserves the attention it’s been getting, I just wish I had thought of it first. There are some great layouts represented and it would be nice to see a big set of these on a wall. I’d imagine the experience of witnessing them in print is a totally different experience than taking them in as clever little thumbnails online.

Edward Kinsella: Updates

Comments Off on Edward Kinsella: UpdatesIllustration

Illustrator Edward Kinsella has updated since I last dropped in on his work. There is something eery and awkward about his imagery but it generates a specific kind of character that makes for a wholly unique image. I really dig his stuff.

Ana Cabaleiro

Comments Off on Ana CabaleiroPhotography

Please enjoy the washed out, slightly retro and sometimes sun-drenched photography captured by Spanish photographer Ana Cabaleiro. It’s a light and beautiful affair. I would say more but the images say it all.

Naked: David Guetta

Comments Off on Naked: David GuettaMotion Graphics

Naked instructed me to ‘ignore the music’ and watch the visuals but they are kinda part and parcel with one another when it comes to this sorta thing. I actually think they work rather well together but I will also admit that the visuals are definitely the more amazing of the pair. Bright, bold, neon and beautiful are words that are easily put to use.

Nathan Manire: Update

Comments Off on Nathan Manire: UpdateIllustration

Illustrator Nathan Manire notified us that he recently updated his portfolio and he has expanded upon his style and capabilities with some new and refreshing imagery. He is a multifaceted talent as capable by the way of hand as by the way of the mouse and that is much more clear in his updated book.

Yoshi Sodeoka: Psychedlic Gifs

Comments Off on Yoshi Sodeoka: Psychedlic GifsAnimated Gifs

Anyone who has frequented this site over the past few years will know there is a special place in my heart for animated gifs which can sometimes be a point of contention since some people think they are pure and pointless trite nonsense. But that is what makes them kind of radical in my opinion. So I was pleased to discover the ‘Psychedelic Gif‘ works for artist Yöshi Sodeöka and event more pleasantly surprised to find a larger, more complex and all the more compelling body of artistic work to accompany the series.

Dieline Top 100 of 2011

Comments Off on Dieline Top 100 of 2011Graphic Design

I’ll come right out and admit that I am not a fan of the arbitrary and subjective lists that crowd and overpopulate the internet but the ever-inspiring Dieline knows what they are talking about. They have amassed their ‘top 100‘ package designs of 2011 and there is some ‘abfab’ work to take in, ponder and draw inspiration from. I was glad to see that I Love Dust’s portfolio package made the list. They are high on my list of ‘if we could just be like them’ studios that we look toward to inspire the growth and image of our studio, so our ears always perk up when we see them make a list of note.

SF based designer/illustrator Brent Couchman has that familiar minimal retro style happening in his portfolio and he does it very well. I should say his ‘Flickrfolio‘ rather.

PURENONSENS

Comments Off on PurenonsensIllustration

Joanna Krótka has filed her work under the domain ‘Purenonsens‘ which is an act of humility to be sure.

“An illustrator based in Poland, born in mid-80’s with imagination driven by psychedelic and morbid pictures as well as prog/space/psychedelic rock music. Bur most of all – huge geek with love for all things geeky.”

As humble as she’d like to be there is some definite illustration talent represented in her portfolio.

Joao Oliveira: Updates Yet Again

Comments Off on Joao Oliveira: Updates Yet AgainGraphic Design

Brasileiro designer and illustrator João Oliveira (Onrepeat) is a young talent whom I’ve followed a few years now. Enough so that he knows I am a sucker enough for his work that I will post it just as soon as he has made a major update which he does more often than most. So once again, he has been in touch and updated his poppy, colorful and fun portfolio with new imagery. This time there is some 3d incorporated which breathes new life into his work. As always, it’s a lot of sugary eye candy that is sure to give the brain a little rush.
