“Sicksystems is a personal art project of a Moscow-based graphic artist Aske. Though initially founded in 2003 as a graffiti crew, over the years the Sicksystems evolved into a versatile creative trio, and in 2009 it became a personal project of its founder and the most active member Aske. This site displays only Aske’s personal works.
Aske started his artistic career in 2000 as a graffiti writer, and soon enough he got involved in graphic design, modern graphics, illustration, typography and many more. He is also a Co-Founder and Editor in Chief of the best Russian graffiti magazine CODE RED.”
Aske has just updated his site with some new and very stylistic work. He has taken a new approach lately that you can see represented in his most recent illustration works. He has also recently banged out some project work for Nike and Stussy. His work made a big splash when it first hit the net a year or so back and he is still one to watch in the future.

Illustrator Aurélien Arnaud is one half of studio PNTS. He has an interesting style that is somewhat reminiscent of Jesse Auersalo or what Theo Gennitsakis has been up to lately. The imagery appears as though it was created digitally but still possesses a tangible quality comparable to a pencil drawing. I am not entirely sure, nor do I particularly care who was the originator or this illustrative style. I feel like all 3 of these artists are doing something a little different with it and I like it.

Everson Nazari AKA Indio San is a Brazilian illustrator who has worked extensively in motion with a wild and imaginative portfolio of work. I really liked the definition of illustration written in his biographical section: “Illustration is a clearly defined act of making art, the goal of wich is to illuminate a piece, a visual representation that is used to make some subject more pleasing or easier to understand.”

Raccoonnook has nothing to say for himself but rather prefers to let his work do the talking. His work mixes pop culture with a healthy dose of inspiration garnered from animation and comics. The old versus new tension happening through simple line art clashing with colors that only could be achieved digitally make for engaging imagery.

I am super impressed by the beautiful and technically amazing oil paintings of Emily Burns who seems to garner a share of inspiration for the chaos created through making a mess. You can view her work via two websites, her illustration site and her home art website. She has little to say about herself but her paintings say it all.

Wow was I impressed by everything happening at Toykyo today. I have been looking a lot more deeply into studios that I consider a model for what we would like to achieve and how we would like to position ourselves as we begin the Changethethought design studio. Toykyo is dead on as to how we would like to model ourselves. Their portfolio is as diverse and amazing as it comes. They think beyond client service producing not only merchandise that they sell themselves but also cultivating talent from other designers and artists commissioning them to produce creative goods. They serve as a great model for the modern day design and creative studio. Stumbling upon them today was a great surprise.

Swedish by origin but London based by choice illustrator Martin Nicolausson has a unique style that is somehow soft and gritty all at the same time. Although the works looks as though it may have been digitally finished there is still something tangible, almost graphite-pencil like about the work. It’s a style that has gotten him a lot of attention on creative blogs as of late. Regardless of the illustration attention, Nicolausson view himself first and foremost as a graphic designer and I think you can see that best not through his illustration work but his use of typography.
More please.

“Mark Ward is a graphic artist based in South London and working internationally. Mark’s work mixes surreal elements inspired by Americana with the everyday, encouraging the viewer to see things differently and look twice at their surroundings.
A graduate of Central St. Martins, he works across fashion, magazine covers, editorial and installations, delivering strong concepts and bold visuals to a range of clients. Projects include signature collections for Stussy, Burton Snowboards and Nike.”
Mark isn’t afraid to just bust out his pen and get gnarly with some old school gritty skateboard deck worthy typography. And oh do I have a soft spot in my heart for that sort of thing and thank you for sending in your work Mark. Awesome.

“Keith Scharwath is an LA based designer, illustrator and art director who has been creating iconic works for the art, fashion, and music industries for the past 10 years. Notable projects include poster, title and promotional design for the 2008 film Beautiful Losers; exhibition design for Re-Run, a traveling art show curated by Aaron Rose; and most recently guest art directing the spring 2010 issue of GOOD magazine. Originally from New Jersey, Keith studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York.”
Keith has some beautiful work in his portfolio that exercises a high degree of understanding what it takes to move between curation and creation. His exhibition work is truly stunning.

Matt Stevens decided to take a simple illustration of a Nike Air Max 1 sneaker and blow it out into an ongoing series of visual interpretations achieved via the style of his favorite designers and illustrators. It’s a great exercise that will no doubt teach him some key insights into the stylistic approaches of his muses. The Mark Weaver and Nicholas Felton pieces are spot on.

Jimmy Zombie is an illustrator with a unique individual style and perspective that recalls a bit of 60’s psychedelia but is achieve most likely through vector art. It always makes you look twice and would be killer hanging on a wall or adorning a tee shirt.
