I have been pouring over the work of Mark Coleran lately as I have begun the process of redesigning the new version of the Changethethought blog and website. Coleran is a rare beast of a designer who has carved out a unique niche in creating user interface systems for movies. You know when the scene comes on when some super secret agent is interfacing with some far out computer or system? Well chances are, Coleran was the man responsible for designing how that user interface system looked. Lately his work has attracted the attention of real software companies who are beginning to employ his skills in creating actual interface systems for new applications.

David Lewandowski updates with more behind-the-scenes motion/3D work he helped create as a member of the super secret ninja motion design team behind the jaw-dropping visuals for the fanboy orgiastic cinema experience that was Tron Legacy. He’s got some excellent work to pick through both for the film and his other clients.

Illustrator and Motion Designer extraordinaire Ian Kim has updated with some slick and tasty new work. He’s always an inspiration and his latest doesn’t disappoint. It’s rare you see someone move through so many mediums with such equal ability to create exceptional visuals. He’s the genuine article.

I had no idea the Mars 1 and Doze Green had joined forces but considering this video is 3 months old I obviously missed the boat on this one. I am a huge fan of both artists equally and the thought of them collaborating got me hot and bothered. There is a great little retrospective and insight about the process of combining their talents in the video above.

Canadian Art Director and Designer Mark Bulford sent us a nice email about how much he enjoys our blog and we wanted to reciprocate because we really liked the work in his portfolio at Brand Nouveau. He has a small but considered body of work with an excellent us of type and image on display that looks like it is poised to get more interesting as he grows in his profession. Thanks for the email Mark.

Soundscreen Design is a collection of graphic t-shirts anchored by an interesting concept that asks the musicians themselves to create artwork for graphic tees promoting their band or just because. Surprisingly or rather not surprisingly (considering that musicians are artists) there are some pretty damn cool tees in their store. If you like the musicians responsible for their creation it serves as a bit of a double bonus.

Again, and you will probably see more of this now that I am finally coming out of my poster collecting nerd closet here is another artist I have appreciated lately creating some outstanding posters for cult horror movie classics. His name is Christopher Ott and his storefront is London 1888. He recently hooked me up with a copy of his They Live poster signed by the director John Carpenter. I am still awaiting it’s arrival in the mail and I am going nuts waiting. It’s a brilliant poster and Ott is cranking out some fun stuff.

“A mashup is a song created by blending two or more other songs. The more complex a mashup gets, the harder it is to distinguish the parts that are being used to create what you’re hearing. This visualisation of the song “Definitive Daft Punk” by Cameron Adams dissects a mashup in realtime to show you how each of the 23 parts contributes to the greater whole.”
Super fun little project to watch. It would be great to see some more songs loaded in there maybe a little somethin’ somethin’ by Girl Talk. Just a suggestion.

Unless you have worked closely with me in the Changethethought studio or you happen to be a close family member you might not know that I am a certified silkscreen movie poster fanatic. I have recently begun living my dream of finally being able to collect Mondo Alamo Drafthouse Posters and have been on a bit of a rampage lately. I was recently turned onto the site Reelizer which pulls together some of the best fan art available and works as a good archive of what has been done in the fanart realm. There is definitely an increasing demand in this market and it’s great to finally see so many talented people emerging to create artwork around some of their favorite films.

It’s been an extremely long time since anyone heard from Bradley G Munkowitz and that’s because he spent the entirety of 2010 in the dark, up late at night constructing 12 minutes of holographic animation sequences for the movie Tron. It was a motion designers dream come true and he produced some truly phenomenal work for the film. He’s continued to be a force of nature in the industry and is often described as ‘crazy’ but ‘amazing’ by his peers but if you really want to know or understand his genius all you have to do is look through his work.

Photographer Nick Meek’s work ranges from light and beautiful to dark and mysterious but it all comes wrapped in a strange mystical air. There are many memorable images in his portfolio and it makes it nearly impossible to choose just one to show in a blog post.
